Professional Development Workshop: Summer of Growth – Best Practice Art Techniques Workshop, June 2017

  • Planned and facilitated a collaborative workshop with Dr. Bill Young for twenty-eight (28) K-12 art teachers from Trumbull, Mahoning, and Columbiana counties. Recruited YSU Visual Art faculty to provide demonstrations and hands-on experiences for K-12 teachers in a daylong professional development workshop hosted by YSU within the Department of Art.

Professional Development Workshop: Slow Art, Thick Description, and Reflection, January 2017

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Youngstown, OH

  • Developed and taught a daylong professional development workshop for twenty-one (21) St. Elizabeth’s Hospital medical residents and medical resident supervisors. Participants learned about thick description in relationship to works of art, engaged in slow art practices with original works of art, and practiced reflective journaling techniques.

Professional Development Workshop: Ursuline High School, August 2016

  • Developed and taught a daylong professional development workshop at YSU for art educators focused on concept-driven curriculum development. Participants learned about Backward Design, concept-oriented teacher resources including PBS Art21 series, and toured The Butler Institute of American Art, followed by a curriculum brainstorming session inspired by the Butler’s contemporary works.

Palmer Museum of Art Youth Workshop – WILD Animations!, June 2015

  • Participants aged 10 – 14 years toured the "Flora and Fauna" exhibition, sketched in the gallery, and wrote short fictional stories about a plant or animal represented in the exhibition. Participants then created a series of drawings and recordings to tell the story using stop-motion animation software resulting in videos shared with friends and family.

Palmer Museum of Art Teen Workshop – Metamorphic Me: Self-Portraits Inspired by Leon Kelly, June 2013

  • Participants aged 14-18 explored the stylistic diversity of Leon Kelly’s works and discussed ideas about metamorphosis and change in the exhibition Suspended Contemplation: Drawings and Watercolors by Leon Kelly. Participants developed self-portraits utilizing contemporary materials to create drawings that were deconstructed and reassembled fusing Leon Kelly’s unique style with the tools and techniques used by contemporary illustrators and street artists.

Palmer Museum of Art Adult Workshop – Mapping My Pennsylvania, August 2013

  • Inspired by the panoramic and bird’s-eye views of Pennsylvania towns and cities in the exhibition From Your Town to Ours: Pennsylvania Prints from the O’Connor-Yeager Collection Revisited, participants used photographs, memory, and observation to create a monoprint map of a personally significant location in Pennsylvania.
